These holy days aren’t so holy. As the ancient city of Jerusalem gathers masses from around the world to celebrate Passover, Ramadan and Easter on the holiest week of the year, war is brewing within. It started when a lone Jew attempted to offer an animal sacrifice on the Temple Mount. That was thwarted by Israeli police … as happens every year like a ritual. Then multitudes of Arabs congregated in protest inside the Al Aqsa Mosque, saying their presence was essential to making sure no further attempts were made by Jews to offer a sacrifice on the sacred site. That led to the Israeli police invading the Al Aqsa Mosque. In retaliation, Muslims in Lebanon fired rockets into Israel. Today, Israel responded to the Muslim retaliation by bombing Lebanon. The only thing that feels holey about this black Friday are the dark pits left where the bombs struck Lebanese earth.
As we enter this Easter weekend, a Roman Catholic writer takes up the pen against Marjorie Taylor Greene who has gone full orange by declaring the arrested Trump to be like the crucified Jesus. The writer asks if the sacrilege of exalting the Orange Jesus to messianic status will never end.
