I was 11 in 1966. Summers were blistering hot. That’s what summer was, it was hot.

I’m thinking that the same people (or at least their first cousins) that came up with RealFeel and the Climate Shift Index also foisted Safe and Effective on billions of people.

Thank you for this deep dive! I’m grateful for this resource! The logic set forth will help me finesse rebuttals to the propaganda people spout confidently as proven fact in everyday conversations without getting attacked or be accused of being an ignorant dolt.

It’s become my new hobby: how to ask provocative questions in a childlike, curious, non-partisan manner to re-engage the lost art of critical thinking in my conversation partner.

Your article is like a primer on critical thinking and the importance of understanding relevant context in regard to (in this case) the politicized weather. Isn’t it ironic that weather was once the safest of topics for polite discourse? We are living in Bizarro World now. Thanks for the route out to an island of sanity and the provocative question when trapped by Mr/Ms Full of Facts: hmm, are you referring to raw temperature data or extrapolating from a heat index model?
