When I see pictures of a hyperscale data center my first thought is not what is evil. I get there eventually.

No. My first thought is five years from now (or less) that’s a stranded asset.

I was DMing with a guy the other day and we had a great time recalling that when Global Crossing went BR the 2nd time they had hardware stored all across the country waiting to be deployed.

And under BR court supervision there were dozens of fire sales at hotels and conference centers where anyone could walk in and by a Cisco server etc for pennies on the dollar.

He and I had both gone to one of those. Me in Detroit and him in Chicago. This was 2002. What we laughed about was that most of the people buying stuff were Cisco sales reps who had made massive amounts of money selling product to GC and were buying up as much as they could to try and keep it off the 2ndary market.

There will be a reckoning. Financial and social. Not sure which one will come first. But they will come.

As an aside, the only actual use case that I have found for AI (versus just using Duck Duck Go) is for generating ideas regarding medical stuff. In that regard, it has been very helpful to me and led me to a new doctor, a totally different diagnosis than what I was previously given, and an entirely different treatment plan that so far has been incredible.

I uploaded a multipage summary of 25 years of medical history, including 10 years of lab results, MRIs, CTs, after visit summaries, PET scans, dental records and surgeries and asked for an assessment and three possible overall diagnosis.

I already thought I knew and the AI put what I thought (which was based on queries I had done with a different AI along with a self administered non supervised trial of a medication)

at the top of the list. But, and this is the key thing, it also had a second choice which it wanted me to consider as not being an either or. In other words I think this is the most likely condition that is causing you these issues. But it doesn’t explain everything. But if you put all the symptoms and timelines together and consider both 1 and 2 there is nothing left unexplained.

And then it spent a lot of time explaining how the two conditions are related and linked me to multiple studies and abstracts.

I sent my new doc a note and asked her, based on what she learned from me at my first visit, whether she would consider this second issue as a possibility and why I thought it might be possible. She sent me a note back and said that’s very interesting. Not something I would have considered but some of what you say makes sense. Make an appt and we will talk.

So for what it’s worth, it’s been helpful in that way.
