The Trump wrecking ball is swinging through everything--stock markets, global bond markets, international trade, longstanding alliances--and that's just TODAY's NEWS!
Come on David. If you’re an American your argument is baseless. Trump and his team are negotiating and as Trump gets what he wants, yes he pulls back the tariffs. What’s he supposed to do? Get them to do what he wants but still say, sorry we’re not stopping?
Next, Trump never threatened to take over Canada. He is offering them a chance at joining the US. Their tax rates will go down and those who are conservatives and in alignment with MAGA will get their freedom back. People in Alberta and other provinces are interested and are in talks with the Trump administration.
Same with Greenland, at no point has Trump said he was going to take Greenland by force. Both Trump and his Secretary of State Rubio have stated publicly and categorically that they want to buy Greenland. If both join the US they will get significant benefits as will the US.
Trump is changing the paradigm and yes if there is a mild recession now it means Trump and his team are doing the right thing. If there isn’t a mild recession that means Trump has betrayed us too and has gone back to QE which means we back on course for a catastrophic economic collapse in the future.
We want America first! If that means some temporary pain we understand it. Just like shutting down USAID. There will be some temporary pain, but 2-5 yrs from now the country will be in much better economic shape.
You’re accusing me of fantasy math? 🤣🤣 there are only 40 million Canadians. Who do you think will come out on top if Canadians are stupid enough to listen to their idiot leaders? We have 340 million people.
I assume your were also saying Ukraine was going to beat Russia three years ago. Ukraine with their population of 50 million was going to beat Russia with a population of 160 million plus a military 10 times their size. That was fantasy math.
Of course now Russia has taken all the important areas with all the natural resources and the Ukrainians are pulling 18 year olds off the streets.
I assume you are one of those that believes Ukraine can still win and the Russians are going to give back all the territory they took in battle. Talk about living in a fantasy.
Yeah but what do I know I’m a, what did you call me? A trumpette. Yeah that’s it. I’m sure those Canadians not vacationing in America are going to break us. Those not buying our beer or whisky are going to break us. 🥸
Because their population of 40 million will destroy our economy of 340 million strong with the biggest economy on the planet and with the world’s reserve currency. But what do I know, I’m a Trumpette who only knows fantasy math. 😉
Yes, I'm accusing you of fantasy math, and everything you said about what I believe about Ukraine is a fantasy, too, as I have never said Ukraine would win. What I DID say is that it was not going to be the quick and relatively easy operation for Russia that many of the Trumpettes were saying it would be and that Ukraine would fight pretty much to the last man standing because we would, too, if it were our country being invaded, regardless of whether the invading army was bigger. Here we are 3 years later still fighting just like I said, and Russia has lost a fortune and a huge number of people and weapons. So, you just go ahead and keep making stuff up.
I also said Trump's original tariff war was not going to the slam-dunk ("easy so easy and quick, just you wait and see") that Trump promised over and over it would be in his first term. Here we are five years later fighting the "easy" tariff war still with China, having gained next to nothing because they never honored the terms of the first agreement, which I ALSO said they would not do because Trump required them to agree to buy more pork than they import from the entire world. So, obviously, they were just signing to avoid his higher Phase 2 tariff threats that year, should they not sign. It was obvious I said back then that they were never going to follow through because they're not going to just let pork rot on the docks. They were clearly hoping Trump would go out of office within a year and someone would replace him who would drop the tariffs. Biden did't drop the lower tariffs, but he didn't enforce the pork deal by moving up to Phase II tariffs either since the agreement had not been honored.
I also said Mexico would never pay for the wall, and it never did, not even through tariffs or price adjustments for tariffs. Not even close.
And I said rescinding and replacing Obamacare would be far from the "easy so easy just you wait and see" that Trump promised it would be. I said that many times, and they never did get it done. I said he would never even come up with a plan so much better, and he never came up with any plan at all, which is a big part of why he failed to rescind Obamacare: Everyone knew he was blowing smoke out his kazoo and had nothing real to offer. It's easy to squawk as the Repubs did about how bad Obamacare is; quite another matter to actually govern and come up with a better plan and manage to get it passed, which they couldn't do even when they controlled both houses of congress.
I also said before he was even inaugurated that his White House was going to prove to be a HYUGE swampy mess because of all the swamp creatures he was nominating for cabinet members, and I catalogued the swampy bonafides for his lead cabinet members, and they sure were a swamp who kept trying to swamp him and succeeded because the swamp continued on, but Trump got unelected and replaced by Biden and then got drowned for four years in legal cases.
I also never said he would not return.
(And through all of that, I got exactly the same kind of lame-flame arguments you're making now, trying to justify how it was that Trump was going to accomplish to make America great! America didn't feel one tiny bit greater after four years Trump than it did before--just a lot more hostile. In fact, I remember 2020 with his Covid lockdowns, experimental vaccine, trillions of dollars in bailouts because of the lockdowns as one of America's worst year.)
You clearly are a traitor to America and are more interested in being right than seeing America succeed. You must be a Democrat or worse.
I just hope I live to see your side not only proven wrong but humiliated for siding with Ukraine and the globalist.
I’m for America First and I don’t give a damn about Ukraine, Canada or Europe. I want America to win and if that makes me living in a fantasy then brother I’m living in a fantasy.
If your side wins then what you see happening right now in Romania, UK and the EU will be happening in America. We will be slaves and betrayed by people like you. I’d rather go down fighting for America my friend something you cannot possibly understand.
You won't live that long because when I said all the things against what Trump was doing last time around, as I just pointed out for you, EVERY one of them proved right. So, good luck with that. And, since they will be proven right this time, too, it is the people who believe in doing those things that I say are going to go bad who are enabling them, which makes them the traitors to America.
You were so right that more ppl voted for him. More blacks, Latinos and ppl between 21-40. Plus he won every swing state and was the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20yrs.
That’s how right you were. Apparently the rest of the country failed to see how right you were. Last week when he addressed Congress 75% of the people polled agreed with Trump. CNN had it at 69%.
David, Canada has 40 million people and the US has 340 million with the biggest economy in the world. In what scenario does Canada come out on top? Same with Mexico. Both countries will make a deal because they have no choice. It’s ok to let their leader talk tough but at the end of the day they will negotiate. In the meantime Trump is enticing manufacturing and companies from Japan, Saudi Arabia and others to build their products in the US so no tax applies.
Europe has 500 million people but their economies are in shambles and don’t even have any military that could possibly take on Russia which is why they are trying yo con America into sacrificing their soldiers. Since we’re not going to sacrifice or fellow Americans for them, they will have to negotiate.
With the war ended we can all go back to taking care of our own citizens. The EU and Canada have chosen Marxism and will continue to censor and cancel elections and they reap what they sow, however Capital and gold are already moving to the US because of the idiots in Canada and the EU who want war.
What happens to that capital? It strengthens the US economy and people will invest their money in America. All of that is already happening.
Canada, Mexico and Europe will either come to their senses and negotiate or they don’t and they lose. Will there be some temporary pain for Americans? Yes, but after that we will have those vibrant and dynamic economy on the planet.
It’s just math, when the world’s wealth is moving to America and USAID is turned off, the other countries can’t continue their madness.
It’s just math sir. The Trump administration is reaching out to Latin America, India and Asia for this very reason. These are the areas where growth is expected, not Europe or Canada.
Your error is that your Trump derangement can’t accept that Trump and his team have a plan and that they haven’t already war gamed all of this.
This same mistake is what caused the Democrat Party to dismiss Trump as an idiot and why he’s back in the White House stronger and more popular than ever.
I know: they Team Trump has war-gamed all of this, just like you and yours constantly told me and everyone else that Trump was playing 4-D chess by filling the White House with swamp creatures throughout the four years of Trump 1.0. I always wrote pointing out the obvious about the detestables he was flooding into the highest offices in the White House, and all the Trumpettes kept arguing like zombies that he was just "holding his enemies closer so he can take them all down."
That was the QAnon argument, and it was beneath dumb. Blind. In the end, the swamp clearly swamped Donald Trump. That's why he wants so much revenge now. They flushed him out of office, continued ALL of their swampish stuff, tied him up in courts, stripped away his money and his properties. He got swamped! Trump got trumped.
Now he's back! So is the same lame argument that what we are seeing that looks like failure is all a brilliant plan. The refreshed argument that Trump has an unknown secret plan that he has already "gamed" is as lame as it was back then. The reality is clear: Canada now has extreme tariffs on us, and Trump removed ALL of his for another month. Canada didn't even flinch. Meanwhile, huge numbers of Canadian businesses are turning away from American products and American vacations, why may be market share we don't get back for a long time, if ever, even after Trump is gone because you can't stop people from hating you once you do everything you can to get them to hate you.
"Trump and his team are negotiating and as Trump gets what he wants, yes he pulls back the tariffs. What’s he supposed to do? Get them to do what he wants but still say, sorry we’re not stopping?"
Seriously??? That's what you are willing to believe happened here?
Here's what happened: Trump reinstated the tariffs he had already pulled back because he said Canada did not go far enough with stopping fentanyl and illegal aliens from crossing its border. The amount of each is miniscule compared to Mexico. Canada applied retaliatory tariffs, and Trump started offering hints of minor reductions. Canada responded that it would not remove or even lower ANY of its retaliatory tariffs until Trump removed all of his. Trump immediately withdrew many of his completely and postponed the others for another month, and Canada lived up to its word and did NOT withdraw ANY of its retaliatory tariffs.
Trump got NOTHING for his second attempt to install the tariffs.
The only thing Canada did when Trump withdrew his second attempt to apply tariffs to Canada was say it would not start a SECOND wave of retaliatory tariffs that were going to come if Trump had done as he said he would (but didn't do), which was to apply his own reciprocal tariffs against Canada's first retaliation. Instead, he withdrew or postponed almost everything. Canada's first retaliatory tariffs remain firmly in place, including a 25% export tariff on energy to raise the price for Americans, meaning all we have for all of this is higher tariffs against the US>
"The only thing that’s certain today is more uncertainty. A pause on some tariffs [by Trump] means nothing. Until President Trump removes the threat of tariffs for good, we will be relentless."
Believe any fantasy you want, but Trump has only managed to get a whole heap of tariffs dumped on the US by Canada and a slightly more intense job at policing their border, which was never anywhere near the trouble that the Mexican border is. And a lot of Canadians boycotting all US products.
"Next, Trump never threatened to take over Canada. He is offering them a chance at joining the US. Their tax rates will go down and those who are conservatives and in alignment with MAGA will get their freedom back. People in Alberta and other provinces are interested and are in talks with the Trump administration."
I don't know where you buy your fantasy novels. I've lived near Canadians most of my life and managed a Canadian-owned resort with nearly 93% Canadian members, and I have NEVER once met a single Canadian who wanted to be an American citizen. Even my Canadian brother-in-law who moved here didn't want to become a US citizen. He just wanted a work visa since he was going to live here to be with his new wife.
Moreover, Trump did NOT just "offer" to let them join the US. That is SO disingenuous. He threatened them strongly and implied said he would levy tariffs on them to make it harder to remain independent from the US. That is why they say the tariffs are all about forcing annexation. Trump said they would be.
"Yet again the president is sowing uncertainty and chaos attempting to undermining our economy by implementing tariffs and then pulling them off,” Eby said."
Numerous publications carried his quotes on that. Don't know how you missed it.
"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,” on the same day U.S. president-elect Donald Trump declared that he’s open to using “economic force” to acquire Canada."
Trump has backpedalled on his tariffs twice, and Canada now has new tariffs on the US while the US does not have its new tariffs on Canada. What a loaf of stale bread he is. The guy who thought he could play strongman, now has all of Canada strong-arming him into backing down practically overnight while they have not backed down an inch. (Nor should they.)
"Trump originally planned to start the tariffs on Feb. 1 to push the bordering neighbors of the U.S. to do more to stop migration and drug trafficking — but then delayed the tariffs by a month.
"Then last week, he told reporters that he was looking at April 2 as a start date for the tariffs — before reversing and putting them in place on March 4."
And then he reversed again a day or two later and took them off again ... and got nothing at all for doing so.
Chaos.
He strongly suggested he might use military force on both Panama and Greenland:
"President-elect Donald Trump suggested Tuesday he would consider using military force to gain control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, and "economic force" to acquire Canada."
"We need it really for international, for world security, and I think we’re going to get it. One way or the other, we’re going to get it."
Maybe he means with the same economic pressures he's tried putting on Canada, maybe military. He's intentionally kept them guessing, but it was strongly implied:
"President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, as he declared U.S. control of both to be vital to American national security.
"I’m not going to commit to that,” Trump said, when asked if he would rule out the use of the military. “It might be that you’ll have to do something. The Panama Canal is vital to our country.” He added, “We need Greenland for national security purposes.”
Trump made sure Panama and Greenland believe military force is on the table.

Its called Welcome to Absurdistan. She is a good writer from Vancouver area. Worked at the big firms. I would say a little more concise than your style. Look, I have no writing talent, but I can say that I would try to convey what you are trying to convey in fewer words for us plebes. Just my two cents.
The FED may be confused. But they still know how to put the PPT back to work after an early lunch, as we witnessed beginning around noon on Friday. Ironic that the miraculous turnaround came just before Jerome began talking.
If the manipulation wasn’t so obvious, it would be amusing.
I’ve always believed that the real reason there has never been an audit, is because a serious forensic examination would reveal just how much the FED intercedes in the equity markets. Which of course is not something they are legally allowed to do. But they do it all the time.
For sure. The jobs report came out and the market fell, and it KEPT falling until Powell was about to speak. Powell spent his speech assuring the public that the economy was strong so the Fed could sit back comfortably on inflation (as I said they would be likely to do) and see how all this plays out. And the market went up the longer he spoke:
"U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reassured markets that the economy remains strong. However, lingering trade policy uncertainty led to Wall Street’s biggest weekly decline in months. Powell signaled that the Fed won’t rush to cut interest rates, citing economic stability."
What economic stability? All articles in the news had just been talking about economic chaos, so what is Powell smoking? He was just talking his kids into a state of calm with fatherly reassurance while the tornado howled above them as they clustered in storm cellar. That inner calm won't last because the outer chaos is about to rip the doors off the cellar.

Its a long one. I quit reading after not acknowledging that there was a civil war going on since 2014 and maybe before in Ukraine when the US overthrough the then elected government who were shelling eastern Ukraine. Russia stepped in while NATO was planning an exercise in March.
And, of course, you hugely oversimplify what happened in Ukraine, so that was a poor reason to stop reading about all that is coming. Let me start off, though, by saying I said what the US did was participate in and even foment a coup in Ukraine AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED, and I've always said I was completely against that because it created the complications in understanding that you exemplify. The US should have stayed out of it.
HOWEVER, the situation started to develop prior to that when Putin's choice for president of Ukraine--a total mafia thug who was a Ukrainian oligarch made rich by the breakdown of the former Soviet Union and his own subsequent corruption--got elected in a completely fraudulent election. The Ukrainian Supreme Court overthrew the election because of the fraud (which is so typical of Russian orchestrated elections). A different leader who leaned toward the West came into power, and Putin was torched that his puppet got ousted.
So, THEN the thug politician hired Paul Manafort to clean up his image in a MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR campaign operation. You know, Trump's dirty dog who did time in prison. And who do you think paid the multiple millions of dollars to get him re-elected? Putin! That is, at least, the person who looks most likely, but it was all done through money laundering, of course, so there is plenty of plausible deniability.
AFTER Putin's man, who had been ousted by Urkaine's own Supreme Court, got elected again, a huge amount of civil unrest over the scoundrel getting back in developed into riots around Ukraine, and Obama saw the opportunity to cultivate a coup out of all that--a coup that appeared very likely to have happened organically anyway, but that the US now deserves blame for because it spent money helping to foment it, which it did through Victoria Nuland. We should have never gotten involved, but we wouldn't have done it at all if Putin hadn't hugely interfered in Ukrainian elections in the first place to get his puppet in.
Putin used the coup as a pretext to invade Ukraine, though our interference in elections doesn't justify him taking over another country, any more than HIS interference in those elections would justify the US taking over part of Russia. That is moronic reasoning. BOTH parties are wrong and should have stayed out of Ukrainian politics altogether. You hate it when the US does it. I hate it when ANY nation does it.
And Putin went farther than that. A civil war developed in the Donbas area between Ukrainian-speaking Ukrainians and Russian-speaking Ukrainians, but they were ALL Ukrainians. The Russian-speaking ones rebelled against Kyiv, and Putin did EVERYTHING HE COULD TO ENTICE THAT REBELLION. He even paid people to become insurrectionists and provided them arms. When the Ukraine gov't took military action against its own rebelling citizens, Putin later tried to claim Kyiv was guilty of first blood in starting a present against Russia. Nonsense! They didn't shoot Russians; they shot UKRAINIANS who spoke Russian who were also shooting at them.
Claiming it was like "first blood" against Russians or Russia is as deceitful as saying, if a civil war developed between Spanish-speaking Americans and English-speaking Americans, the Spanish government has a right to get involved and take back parts of America that it lost in the Spanish-American war because the English-speaking Americans fired the first shots at people of Spanish descent who still spoke Spanish! It's preposterous.
The USSR ceded Crimea to Ukraine years ago. That was a deal offered by the Soviet Union under Krushev, who was Ukrainian. It was the USSR's idea since Krushev was the head of government. Russia also transplanted many of those Russian-speaking people into the Donbas region of Ukraine to strengthen the connection in the Soviet era. AND Russia gave Ukraine the right to secede by vote from the Soviet Union under the Soviet constitution in the very first place in order to get Ukraine to join the USSR without a fight.
Then, when the USSR broke up, Ukraine exercised that constitutional right and voted to secede with those long-established boundaries set in place by the USSR, and the newly forming Russian federation did not resist that right under either Gorbachev or Yeltsin. So, the boundaries were firmly established and accepted by the world. That means Putin has no more right to change those than Trump has to annex Canada!
Leave established boundaries alone and don't interfere in elections, and you don't start wars.
(Thanks for helping me get started on another possible article.)
Him being a mafia thug, I don't know. After watching Oliver Stone's movie about Ukraine, I would disagree. I wasn't there but Victoria Nelund's vendetta against Russia was pretty obvious. I would rather Douglas Mcgregor as president but that was not an option. Trump is owned by a faction in Israel and there is no changing that. Causing I little chaos to cause others to back pedal - so be it.
As for "Russia stepped in while NATO was planning an exercise in March," planning an exercise or even conducting one isn't even slightly justification for invading another nation and seizing its land. Russia conducts exercises within a gunshot of US coastal boundaries around Alaska all the time. We don't use that as an excuse to invade and seize Kamchatka. China conducts military exercises around Taiwan and islands close to the Philippines all the time. We don't use that as an excuse to invade and seize Hong Kong on the basis that it leans toward the West and was once part of the West.
I just don't understand why people who used to be conservatives bend over backward so hard to try to create excuses for Putinazi's choice to slaughter Ukrainians who never once attacked Russia.
I guess we going have to agree to disagree. And I did read some of the article and the part about Europe was just as bad. My wife is from Europe and they always think their shit don't stink. Read the article that I sent from a Canadian author.

Trump got NOTHING for his second attempt to install the tariffs.
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/trudeau-expects-trade-war-canada-us-foreseeable-future-119512307
And a lot of Canadians boycotting all US products.
https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/06/business/jack-daniels-tariffs/index.html

"Trump said he intended to consider using 'economic force' against the neighbor to the north" to get them to accept annexation.
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5071665-trump-economic-force-canada/
Numerous publications carried his quotes on that. Don't know how you missed it.
"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,” on the same day U.S. president-elect Donald Trump declared that he’s open to using “economic force” to acquire Canada."
https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/business/economics/2025/01/07/trump-says-hes-open-to-using-economic-force-to-acquire-canada-as-a-state/
Trump has backpedalled on his tariffs twice, and Canada now has new tariffs on the US while the US does not have its new tariffs on Canada.
"President-elect Donald Trump suggested Tuesday he would consider using military force to gain control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, and "economic force" to acquire Canada."
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-suggests-use-military-force-acquire-panama-canal-greenland-econo-rcna186610
Numerous publications carried his quotes on that one, too. Don't know where you're buying your fantasy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXRFB6t5xJQ
His actual words with Greenland were
"We need it really for international, for world security, and I think we’re going to get it.

Friday was Exhibit A.

Thank you for making the whole thing public! It's an amazing piece.
