EXTRA: Nuclear Response Threatened!
Here are some followup headlines on today's huge story.
First, I want to share the graph of what has happened to my website in terms of paying subscriptions over the past year since I started pointing out the problems with Trump’s tariffs, then the slow degradation of the economy under his policies and the rise of inflation and, more recently his many wars: (Note particularly the exodus of paying subscribers when I started criticizing Trump’s attack on Venezuela and his many other threatened wars in the region back in January.)
As you can see, with each series of articles against Trump, paid subscriptions drop. I put out a plea and number of brave souls jump in to try to backfill the hole, but not enough to make up for the loss; so the overall trend remains down. Then the next time I have to get critical on Trump I take another deep slide, and then a few more jump in to boost things partially back up. However, I have continued the battle all year, regardless of how it impacts my finances.
I am very thankful to those who have jumped in to become paying subscribers at each of those times, including today—especially Zahra and Steven Sethna, whom I have enjoyed working with a lot in interviews on their own Substack channel. Very nice people to talk with and interesting. They left a kind note today as well:

I am also thankful to those supporters who have stayed with me for years, never flinching. You are the backbone of this site.
Now on to the extra headlines to track the big events of this afternoon:

US Markets Remain Stupid and Greedy:
Just listen to the naive rationale used: “No one – including Iran – benefits from a permanent closure there, he said.” Is he really dumb enough to think closing the strait requires Iran to launch missiles and drones at its own ships??? Iran will allow all Iranian tankers to ship Iranian oil even if the strait remains closed. Iran will benefit greatly from the vastly higher price for its oil as the ONLY oil that ships out. Iran’s ships will also know where all the mines are. Sometimes seemingly smart analysts are really dumb.
