“No pain, no gain.”

Most likely will be a lot more pain than gain, given how badly things are going so far with the layoff mistakes made, and the economy falling apart before the layoffs are even felt. And far ahead of all the domino affects. And almost no tariffs actually implemented yet on the US side with Canada, Mexico and Europe. We've got a LOT more pain to go if Trump does what he's said he will do, which is a big if with him.

Has to be done

It would just be so much better if it were being done intelligently, instead of in such a totally reckless manner. I mean, when you fire people without knowing a thing about them or because they didn't fill out their five things they accomplished that week, you may be firing the very best and most important among them, and you would have no idea. It's lame on DOGE's part to think they're worth firing because they didn't fill out their answer form when their own Trump-appointed bosses were telling them not to. That, in itself, was inept--the left hand not coordinating with what the right hand was doing and getting in a pissing match between the leadership. It's chaos.

It also may be that some of the smartest and best say, "Screw you! If you don't know what I'm worth to this organization after 37 years of dedicated service, I'm not playing your dumb little game and filling out your report card on what I did this week. I was going to retire in three years anyway. So, go ahead and fire me. I won't even train my replacement on the way out or give you a clue about the critical stage of work I was at because you're a jerk."

With this ham-fisted approach that you would do nothing but ridicule if it were the Biden administration handling things like this in getting out of Afghanistan, we're going to get a LOT of screw ups, and we've already seen two big screw-ups where DOGE fired a bunch of people, and then immediately hired them back when they found out, "OH, those were the guys responsible for maintaining our nuclear missiles and safeguarding them" and, "Oh, a hundred of those were air-traffic controllers, and we already have an extreme shortage of air-traffic controllers." If they treated me that way and then wanted to hire me back because they didn't know what they were doing when the so abruptly fired me after years of quality, dedicated service, I'd be strongly inclined to tell them where they can shove it.

There are certainly some lousy loafers who can be gotten rid of and entire departments that should be eliminated, but by this approach you might very well be firing your best and brightest because the DOGE brothers clearly have no idea who they are firing. And that's just dumb on their part.
