I’d like to announce to previous subscribers of The Daily Doom two new publications on Substack, one of which you’ll love to laugh at, the other of which you’ll probably hate:
I think both parties generally do such a good job of knocking themselves out that all I have to do is just shine a light on their absurdity. American politics is a two-ring circus as far as I’m concerned; so, as a lifelong independent voter, I find plenty of hypocrisy and skullduggery to poke fun at on both sides of the aisle. I find it natural and desirable to lampoon anything that begs for ridicule, whether it is Joe Biden’s gaffs or George Santos’s circus of lies. (Santos, I think, is a rare case where both sides can actually agree. He’s about as welcome as Covid, so I published that article in both publications.)
Unfortunately, my equal-opportunity criticism always loses me some readers on one side or the other these days because America has become sharply divided into two camps who demand either entirely liberal views or all conservative views. So, I’ve decided to divide my satire into two publications -- The Malarkey Musket (which takes aim at Biden’s baloney) and The Trumpette Gazette (which blows its horn at Trump’s buffoonery).
As I will always be an independent, I invite you to totally ignore the publication you don’t like and subscribe to the one you will love. If you are one to recoil at seeing your own side get poked in the funny bone, why not have fun with views on the news you agree with, and share those articles with others to help that publication succeed? Who knows? Maybe it will wind up being the only one shared enough to survive! So, defeat the one you wouldn’t be interested in by sharing the one you like, and you’ll have fun all along the way!
Unfortunately, I am just not wired to fall into either camp, so this is my way of dealing with the most divided America I’ve ever lived in. I decided to resolve the problem of writing satire in these divided states with something for everyone and nothing they don’t want to hear! The Malarkey Musket and The Trumpette Gazette are like a pair of squabbling sisters. If you find only one of the sisters attractive enough and agreeable enough to engage with, please don’t hold her ugly, sassy sister against her. (Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so which one you find worth looking at will depend on your own views.)
Here is a summary of each publication, where you can find a number of articles already posted under each link provided:
Inspired by Joe Biden's cries of "malarkey," The Malarkey Musket takes aim at all of Biden's blarney and all Democratic demagoguery with satire and sarcasm similar to The Onion or The Babylon Bee. It's news with a snooze button like #NoMoJo, himself. It’s aimed at frying Biden’s baloney and the Democrat’s bacon by sneaking up on the truth with humor. If you like to dump on the Dems, sign up for free to watch The Musket take pot shots at them.
The Trumpette Gazette is all political satire and sarcasm that blows its horn at Trumpettes and their MAGA madness, that flicks the nose of hard-nosed RINOs, and that revolts against the Republican revolt. It takes the bolts out of John Bolton, and trumps the Donald every time the Great Pumpkin says something that lights his own patch on fire.
If, like me, you like your political humor to cut both ways or believe the only time politicians on either side stop lying is when they’re pausing to think up their next lie, you might want to subscribe to both publications. Be forewarned, though, the edge on the sword of sarcasm cuts deep either way.
As a side note to those who recently subscribed to The Daily Doom on Substack only to find it is no longer being published there, I want to let you know that it still continues but only on my own site The Great Recession Blog, which is all about our economic downturn. It is available there to people who support my writing at $10/month. (Thanks to my patrons, I write many articles on my blog that are free for everyone, but some are just there as my thank-you to those who support my writing … as should be the case.) If you’re still looking for The Daily Doom, you’ll find it there.
For example, the article I am currently working on for The Great Recession Blog is my big list of 2023 economic predictions, but that will only be available to my patrons. Later in the year, as parts of that article start to come true, I’ll probably share excerpts with all readers to help them understand what is happening and where it is likely to go, as I did last year.
I’m always tempted to write political humor, but it is usually not on-topic for my economics blog. So, these two publications are my way of getting that out when I just need some release from focusing so much of my time on our bad-news economy. Laughter is the best medicine for all of us. Get relief from the prescription that’s Right for you … or laugh at the one that’s Left.

Hello David. It seems as though we may be cut from the same cloth but travelled down obviously different avenues of learning. I would love for you to read this stack and give a comment.
I saw you were published at Lew Rockwell, which in and of itself says a lot since he doesn't seem to be to easy to get published by. I have managed in the past, but this following link sent him on a tizzy because I felt the information was so important and he didn't. I guess I rubbed him the wrong way because now I'm on his "ignore" list due to my insistence. He said it was "too long" and yet I see the one he just published of yours easily rivaled the length of mine. Mine offers an explanation as to how we got to where we are due to the screwed up monetary system and some solutions to be used locally. Please check it out and comment.
